The Wine Museum is conceived as an answer to the vine and wine growing tradition in the area. It is a centre of services and activities related to the tourist and cultural promotion of Bullas and its production area. The exhibition presents in a didactic way all the process of the wine making, establishing a clear difference between those traditional and current procedures.
The traditional wine cellar which today is the Wine Museum dates back in the 19th century. It initially belonged to the Melgares de Aguilar family, and thanks to the preservation of a large part of its original elements, this building is the ideal place to show all the ancient and present wine growing activity in the area included under the Bullas mark of origin.
A more than 1.400 m2 surface offers the visitor wide possibilities to enjoy the cultural environment around wine. The annual production of this cellar was about 350.000 litres of wine, distributed in 112 large earthen jars de wine, what made it as one of the largest of the old Kingdom of Murcia in size and capacity.
They are organized into several sections, following a logical order and suitably indicated to facilitate a self-guided visit:
The geographical frame places the visitor in the spatial context of Bullas and its area.
The audio-visual report introduces the visitor in the historical and cultural context related to the wine making in Bullas and creates the ideal atmosphere to start with the visit.
